Hikes are usually scheduled Tuesday evenings and on Saturday & Sunday.  Additional hikes are held during the day on either Wednesday, Thursday and/or Friday.

We will walk from Holler Park south to stop at the Amtrak Station for a restroom; then south to College Avenue and east to the Cudahy Nature Preserve and back.

LIONS DEN, GRAFTON

Meet: Main parking lot.

Directions: Take I-43 north and exit at Grafton Hwy. 60 East.  Go 1/2 mile and turn left (north) on Hwy. C for about 1-1/4 miles until you see the sign for Lions Den. Turn right (east) on High Bluff. Drive 1/2 mile until road ends at the main parking lot.

Panoramic views of Lake Michigan, wooded ravines, wetlands and an elk farm are featured on this Ozaukee County hike. A steep stairway is optional. Late spring wildflowers may be blooming. Outdoor facilities available at the parking lot.

Urban hike through Milwaukee’s spectacular downtown, along its waterfronts, and in its Lower East Side and Third Ward neighborhoods. The Last Tuesday Series departs from MSOE and follows a different route each month. Restrooms available at the start of the hike only. Routes for this yearlong series are on paved streets with some stairs and hills. Back by popular demand, completion, tokens will be given to hikers finishing each monthly hike.

Meet: Piggly Wiggly parking lot next to McDonald’s, W189S7847 Racine Avenue (near Janesville Road), Muskego.

We will hike from the Piggly Wiggly on the Rec Trail to Muskego County Park and do the trails in the park as well.  Bathrooms available at beginning of hike and at the park.  Any questions, call Mary Hinkley.

DEVIL’S LAKE STATE PARK

Meet: North Shore parking lot (farthest east, near base of trails on East Bluff).  Do not go to the lot near beach parking.

Directions: Take I-94/90 west; 3 miles south of Baraboo via Hwy. 123; 11 miles north of Sauk City via Hwy. 12.  Park Headquarters:  S5975 Park Road, Baraboo, WI 53913.

State Park sticker required.  Bring lunch and water. Leaders are camping at the park; arrange own carpools. This will be a shuttle hike using north IAT segment, park trails, steep climbs, rough terrain; some off-trail hiking possible.

Meet:  South Shore parking lot.

SCHOOF’S PRESERVE
Meet: Holy Hill parking lot. Take Hwy. 167 west to Carmel Road (entrance to Holy Hill Church grounds).  Turn left and follow road until it goes to the right (one way) and opens into a large gravel parking lot (lot is on the left side). Nearby is St. Mary of the Hill Church.

Restroom at Holy Hill to start. We will hike the Ice Age Trail to Shannon Rd., and then take Shannon Rd. to Schoof’s Preserve. Within the Preserve (another Ozaukee land trust gem) there is a one-mile loop on the trail system that people DO NOT HAVE TO WALK IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO DO SO.  They may wait on a bridge until we return for them (hence the hike is one mile shorter). Then we will return back to Holy Hill.

Meet: Highland Woods parking lot, 12701 North Green Bay Road, Mequon. (Corner of Highland Ave. and N. Green Bay Rd. in Mequon.  It’s just west of MATC campus on Highland Ave.)

There may be a porta-potty at Highland Woods and one at Mee-Kwon park. We will be going through a county park, then a nature area near Fromm Foods, then Mee-Kwon Park, then onto and through Spirit Lake Nature Preserve that the Ozaukee Land Trust acquired from the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, then through more trails in more woods, then back through a county park, and finally back to Highland Woods to hike the trails in this park. (People can bow out of the last part if too tired.)

GRANT PARK BEACH AND OAK LEAF TRAIL.

Meet: Grant Park Beach parking lot next to Ferch’s Beachside located at 2299 Grant Park Dr., South Milwaukee.

We will walk brisk pace up the road to the Oak Leaf trail, along Lake Michigan to the Seven Bridges where we can walk down to the beach.  Plenty of stairs at the bridges  but the rest of the hike will be flat and either paved or packed ground. The stairs and the path at Seven Bridges can be slippery and hand rails may not be available. Since it’s summer, bathrooms should be available at the park.

Meet: 1020 Beach Park Lane, Sheboygan, WI. Enter park and turn very first left on Beach Park Lane.  Follow to North Beach pet picnic area parking lot.

EISENBAHN STATE TRAIL, WEST BEND
Meet: Regner Park. Take Hwy 45 north to Hwy 33 in West Bend. Hwy 33 east to Hwy 144. Take Hwy 144 (Main St.) north about ¼ mile. The park is on the left, 800 N Main St, West Bend.

Restrooms are available at the start. The crushed stone trail is level; city streets are hilly!  On this beautiful hike you’ll see the Milwaukee River, a labyrinth garden, Regner Park’s swimming hole, and the North Point Wildlife area.

HIKING TO CAMELOT: HIKE #1 (New!)

Meet: Camelot Park, Brookfield.

Directions: From North Barker Road (a wee bit south of Fox Brook Park, which is at 2925 N. Barker) turn west on Chadwick Lane. Turn right on Barberry Street. Turn left on Camden Lane and go .2 mile to Camelot Park. Pull into the small parking lot. If all spots are taken, park on the street.

No bathroom on this hike. Holly will lead a couple of hikes from Camelot Park this year. We have not hiked much in this particular area.

WHITNALL PARK HIKE AND “SALAD TOSS”

Meet: Whitnall Park (Hales Corners) picnic area #7 parking lot.  Turn west onto College Ave. from South 92nd St. (South of Grange Ave., north of Rawson Ave.) Turn right at stop sign, bear/curve to the left past the lagoon.  Parking lot is about ½ mile further, on your left across from playground area.

We will be on trails that might be wet/muddy. Bring a large plate, fork, beverage and something to add to a salad (veggies, nuts, berries, etc.). I will provide the lettuce. No salad toss if it is pouring rain.
